Financial Crime and Fraud

The FLA is involved in the fight against financial and organised crime. Crime committed against FLA members effects both consumers and the industry’s we represent. The proceeds can also be used to finance terrorist activities.    

The FLA is represented on all the current key initiatives, both public and private sector, which are helping fight individual and organised financial crime. Some of these initiatives include:

  • The work of the City of London Police’s Economic Crime Unit
  • The Serious Organised Crime Agencies  (SOCA) work in non-fiscal and ID related crime
  • The National Fraud Authorities (NFA) work, which includes co-ordinating the fight against financial crime and fraud.
  • The new proposed National Fraud Reporting Centre (NFRC) and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB)
  • The work of Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG), which is involved in publishing ‘best practice’ guidance in anti-money laundering- FLA is a founding member and also provides guidance for members on AML issues across all three divisions (asset, motor and consumer finance)

The FLA, through its committee structures, looks at all areas of financial crime and related fraud, including;

  • Motor and Asset related fraud
  • Consumer related fraud, including loan fraud
  • ID enabled fraud
  • Cheque and plastic related fraud
  • E-fraud
  • Data security
  • Money laundering
