2013 Automotive Financial Crime Conference

The FLA’s fifth annual Automotive Financial Crime Conference is being held on Wednesday 17 April This popular one-day FLA conference is aimed at all vehicle funders (and associated industries) and will provide topical, expert insight on current financial crime, risk and fraud issues. It will also offer delegates advice on how to minimise the impact of this kind of crime on their businesses.

2013 The Future of Consumer Credit Regulation

In early 2013, the Government and the Financial Services Authority are expected to publish two consultation papers on a new regulatory regime for consumer credit under the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This will be one of the most significant changes to the sector for a generation, affecting around £260 billion in outstanding credit and approximately 50,000 firms. These consultations will provide an insight into how the Government plans to regulate the sector from April 2014. This conference will provide lenders with an in-depth analysis of the Government’s proposals and their likely impact on the consumer credit industry.

2013 Annual Dinner

The FLA’s Annual Dinner is the highlight of the finance and leasing industry’s social calendar and is always widely supported by the industry. At the 2012 dinner, 1,400 guests representing more than 100 companies heard from the Rt Hon Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon and broadcaster Jeremy Vine. They also enjoyed a magnificent dinner and unrivalled networking opportunities.

2012 Asset Finance Operations Conference

Under the FLA Business Finance Code, FLA members are committed to promoting responsible trading between intermediaries and customers. This ensures that the customers of FLA members are protected from the unscrupulous actions of a minority of equipment suppliers, some of whose activities were reported earlier in the year by the national media. The FLA Asset Finance Operations Group has developed new guidance to help members mitigate the risks involved in dealing with equipment vendors and other intermediaries. The guidance covers over 50 best practices designed to avoid problems that can otherwise prove expensive and damage the reputations of both lessees and lessors. This year’s conference will include up to 30 presentations on best practices from the Operations Group Guidance. Plenary sessions will explore how the leasing industry can protect and enhance its reputation as a finance provider to both the business and public sectors.

The Government has proposed the transfer of consumer credit regulation from the Office of Fair Trading to the new Financial Conduct Authority. This will be one of the most significant changes in the history of financial services regulation – not least due to the sheer scale of the task. The conference will also include presentations on all the latest developments affecting consumer credit, (from both a policy and regulatory perspective) to ensure lenders are up-to-date and can prepare accordingly.
