Guide to Payment Protection Insurance

This is the second edition of this leaflet which reflects the new Insurance Conduct of Business (ICOB) rules issued in December 2007.

The Finance and Leasing Association and the Association of British Insurers have produced this leaflet to help consumers understand:
  • what payment protection insurance (PPI) is and where you can buy it;
  • how you pay for your policy;
  • what the PPI provider is responsible for;
  • the main differences between PPI policies that credit companies may offer to you;
  • what evidence you will need to provide when you make a claim; and
  • your right to cancel your policy.

The Guide can be downloaded here (PDF 116kb)

Hard copies of the Guide can be purchased by completing this form.

In the summer of 2007, insurers, banks, mortgage lenders and consumer credit providers joined forces to produce a consumer guide to PPI. This explains how PPI works and advises customers on what they need to ask the seller to ensure the product is suitable for them.
