FLA is continually working on industry research initiatives. 2005 saw the completion of a number of projects:
Finance for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises – A Report on the 2004 UK Survey of SME Finances by Warwick Business School
The Survey was initiated by the Bank of England and funded by a consortium of bodies representing business, including FLA. The report confirmed the important role asset finance plays in funding investment by UK SMEs.
SMEs and Capital Investment
The Survey was initiated by FLA’s Technology Group and co-sponsored by FLA and the Forum for Private Business (FPB). The research was carried out by FPB and focussed on what assets SMEs are investing in and their investment intentions over the next year.
Payment Protection Insurance Consumer Research
This project was initiated by FLA’s General Insurance Panel and was co-sponsored by FLA and PROTECT. The research was carried out by HI Europe. The primary objective was to provide a detailed understanding of reactions to the way PPI is sold to customers at Point Of Sale, in order to inform discussions with the FSA, the media, and the public at large.
Development of the Point of Sale Motor Finance Market
This project was initiated by FLA’s Motor Finanance Division Management Committee and is the largest research project ever funded by FLA. Its purpose is to produce independent research on the future viability of point of sale (POS) motor finance in the UK and to develop strategies which may be used to promote change via dealerships to reverse current market trends and maintain sales volumes. The full report will be received in January 2006 and is being presented at FLA’s Motor Finance Convention 2006.
