The Code sets out best practice in consumer lending, which the Chief Executives of full members must sign up to when they join the FLA. All members must complete an Annual Statement of Compliance which confirms that the company is fulfilling the requirements under the Code and will continue to do so for the next 12 months. It is a condition of FLA membership.
If a customer feels that a member firm has not complied with the Code, they can contact the FLA and take advantage of the conciliation service we run. Further details can be found here.
An independent group of consumer and industry representatives oversees compliance with the Code and conducts inspection visits. The Code is regularly updated to keep it relevant and effective in terms of the protection it offers.
