FLA and Government agree new credit and store card rights for consumers

Released on 15 March 2010

Responding to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills’ announcement on new rights for credit and store card users, Fiona Hoyle, Head of Consumer Finance at the Finance & Leasing Association, said:

“Today’s package of measures builds on the consumer benefits introduced by card companies following the 2008 Consumer Credit Summit. We support measures which help customers get the most out of their cards. That’s why we have worked closely with the Government on these important new reforms, which will give customers a much greater say in how their credit and store card accounts are managed.

“But it’s also important to avoid unintended consequences in a rush to make changes, so we will continue to work with Government as these new benefits are introduced over the forthcoming months to ensure smooth implementation.”
