Malcolm Rogers
Malcolm Rogers worked in banking and asset finance for more than 30 years, and was head of commercial credit underwriting for several major banks.  He is now semi-retired, and has a number of non-executive directorships and charity trusteeships, in addition to being a member of his local Mountain Rescue team.  

He has been presenting courses for the Finance & Leasing Association for more than 25 years, specialising in risk management topics.


George Tonks, Invigors EMEA LLP
George works as a consultant advising a range of companies within the leasing and asset finance industry.  He has developed particular expertise in lease accounting, taxation and evaluation, together with the application of banking capital adequacy rules to leasing.

His experience within the industry, as a partner in Invigors EMEA LLP and in previous roles such as Head of Taxation and Technical Support for HSBC’s UK Commercial and Corporate Banking Divisions covers a full range of asset finance transactions, including the structuring (and restructuring) of leases and corporate transactions involving lessors and portfolios.

George is an active member of a number of the FLA’s committees, including tax and accounting, and VAT.  He is also contributing editor for the equipment leasing section of one of the major UK tax commentaries.

John Williamson
John was a director within PWC’s Banking & Capital Markets Division until he retired in 2011. With over 39 years’ experience with PWC and its predecessor firms and over 30 years specialising in providing audit and advisory services to the leasing industry, including due diligence, lease structuring, litigation support and lease evaluation, he was widely regarded as the firm’s expert in lease accounting and chaired its global Leasing Industry Accounting Group.

He is the principal author of all four editions of PWC’s “Leasing in the UK” published by Tolleys and an earlier edition published by Euromoney; and has contributed to numerous of publications on leasing and banking. He has acted on the technical accounting committees of the UK Finance & Leasing Association, the British Vehicle Rentals and Leasing Association and the ICAEW’s and CCAB’s sub-committees on lease accounting. He was also a member of the working party that introduced the UK Statement of Recommended Practice (“SORP”) on lease accounting.

Since retiring John has continued to maintain a close interest in the development of lease accounting and in particularly the IASB’s and FASB’s joint project on lease accounting.
John holds a degree in economics from Hull University and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.


David Malempre
David’s initial legal career was with A.F. & R.W. Tweedie, solicitors, where he worked principally in litigation. In 1980, he was recruited as Legal Manager of Robert Benson Lonsdale & Co. Limited, the principal leasing subsidiary of Kleinwort Benson Limited, the merchant bank and was subsequently appointed as Group Legal Adviser. Thereafter, he was an associate with Beaumont and Son, the aviation solicitors in London.

After a short spell in commerce as Legal Director of the All Leisure Travel Holdings Plc group of companies, he became an independent legal consultant and spends his time advising financial institutions and is particularly active within the aviation industry.

David is a non-executive director to a number of companies and was a member of the FLA’s legal sub-committee for many years and he has lectured on each FLA Intermediate Course since 1987 and on each FLA Foundation Course since 1999.


John Bennett
John Bennett is an independent consultant in the European leasing market advising lessors, vendors, lessees and trade associations. Until his retirement in 2010, he was Managing Director EMEA of Bank of America Leasing Global Vendor Finance, based in London, and operating in 16 countries in Western Europe.

John Bennett has over 30 years experience in key sectors of the leasing and asset finance  market – big ticket, vendor, middle-market and operating leasing.
He has previously held CEO and director positions with UK leasing subsidiaries of Royal Bank of Scotland, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Sanwa Bank (Japan).

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland and educated at Manchester Polytechnic and Manchester Business School and holds a BA in Business Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration.

Board member of Leaseurope, the European leasing trade federation 2004-2010, and Chairman of Leaseurope 2007-08.
